Bill Moye and his wife, Jan, reside in Ocala, FL with their Lhasa Apso, Pandemonium. Bill, a Florida native, demonstrates his love of the outdoors in his wood sculptures. Ocala is an excellent area to fill his need for new ideas. Located in the rolling hills of beautiful North Central Florida, Ocala is known as the horse capital of the world and also a favorite area for retirees with its wonderful climate, numerous lovely golf courses, and beautiful horse farms. The area also provides many lakes, springs and rivers for an avid fisherman like Bill. The prevalence of walking trails among centuries old oaks dripping with Spanish moss, stately pine forests and flowing palms and palmettos feed his creative imagination for new creations. Bill and his wife enjoy rambling the back roads and trails of their native state exploring its natural beauty and searching for unique pieces of wood (driftwood, roots, limbs, barn wood, fences, old shingles) that Bill will turn into pieces of art.
Bill has been carving wood about 30 years and wood burning for nearly that long.
Bills work is known for the exquisite detail rendered with a wood burning
pen. Each feather on the waterfowl is highlighted giving them a distinctive
softness, depth, and lifelike appearance. Likewise, his carved fish display
every scale, and animals display lifelike detailing in their fur coats. Many
of his wood burned pieces are unique in appearance as they have the appearance
of wood tumbled in water for years and bleached by the sun. In fact, unique
is a good word to describe Bills style.
Bills clientele also favor his wood burnings of lighthouses and inspirational
pieces depicting scripture verses, and his commissioned pieces.
Bill considers his woodcarving and wood burning as his hobby/supplemental income
venture at the present time. He hopes to make Wildlife in Wood his retirement
job.
